Hybrid working should be less stressful, but is it?
Let’s talk ‘hybrid working’, challenge the status quo, be less mediocre and accepting of the old rules….
The workplace is rapidly evolving and with it there a so many new and complimentary ways of working that we can embrace. Let’s focus on our individual strengths, shared values and our unique ways of working and understand more around the options and possibilities to bring clarity and shine a light.
I recently put a poll out on LinkedIn asking a question around your biggest hybrid workplace challenges right now. 43% reported work-life balance, 43% communications & collaboration with productivity being the next highest category and that totally correlates with what I’m hearing generally right now.
Has the hybrid world left us feeling less connected, less happy, lacking structure, certainty, predictability, with unspoken fears & little sense of belonging? With many employers demanding workers return to the office it’s left an uneasy feeling; the stakes high if they refuse; affecting promotion prospects; dismissal / performance reviews through to exhaustion & frustration if they comply.
There over working from home can be great for some but for others they’re left feeling disconnected and unproductive. Trust me, it’s real, I’ve lived both!
So is there a third office option to finding a comfortable environment that works more naturally for you?
Listening to The Daily Podcast episode entitled ‘The hybrid worker malaise’ with Emma Goldberg, Business Reporter with New York Times she refers to hybrid as “an awkward middle ground that we’re in. It’s like an experimental work life, negotiating the home and the office.”
What about the regional flexible office workplace closer to home, it can bring clarity, clear benefits & less compromise?
- A shorter commute results in more time
- Great infrastructure brings continuity
- Organic & diverse business member communities create more natural connections and engagement leading to that sense of belonging.
- ‘Loose ties effect’ under one roof – random acts of kindness and help from people that you might not otherwise encounter & can end up leading to a big part of your work life.
- Different personalities and a choices of workplace environments enable your inner voice to be heard, unleash your strengths and values.
So to wrap up….. there still seems some way to go in finding the right balance, structure and make-up of workplace environments to enable us all to thrive.
There are some great flexible options are out there but for some it seems to be a case of proving the hypothesis first and taking time to understand how to best meet the requirements of individual businesses and the unique individuals that work within them.
If any of this resonates with you and you’d like to learn more then I’m here to help.
